In March of 2005, SoHo Sushi acquired The Yellow Door on Howard Avenue. The name SoHo Sushi was developed from the founding location on South Howard Avenue in the SoHo District. With 10 tables and a Sushi Bar seating only 7, the humble surroundings of this location proved to be the right environment to build a unique and transformative sushi culture in the city.
In April of 2008, it was clear that the small surroundings of Howard Avenue was no longer capable of handling the growth of this eclectic new concept. After an exhaustive search, the SoHo Sushi brand closed their SoHo doors with their sights on a larger space. One month later, SoHo Sushi acquired its current home on Kennedy Boulevard and was reopened for business. Formerly Jasmine Thai, this space was the perfect fit for an expanded presence and the demand for the SoHo Sushi brand. With nearly double the space, the new SoHo Sushi has since provided a launching pad for several new services, expanded selections, and continued growth of the SoHo brand.
The evolution of this brand has included two remodels and an expansion including our unique Sake bar. In May 2011, the restaurant underwent a front to back remodel. This expansion included a larger sushi bar, additional seating, and an increased menu and wine selection. This five day transformation sparked an immediate expansion of kitchen services and was an overnight success. One year later the kitchen was expanded and refitted to accommodate the increased demand.
Since then the SoHo Sushi brand has evolved into Tampa Bay’s premier location for sushi and Japanese food. The sushi chefs are highly trained and knowledgeable in all aspects of the sushi preparation and presentation process. Whether you’re in search of a particular fish or simply the best tuna that Tampa has to offer, these sushi designers will make your sushi fantasies come true. Never be afraid to ask for something special as it is what they do best!
2013 was also a big year for growth as SoHo added catering services and a new concept to the SoHo Sushi family. Sushi Inc, located in the heart of downtown Saint Petersburg, opened their doors on October 23, 2013, offering the same vibrant and unique Sushi and Japanese Food that gave SoHo Sushi its success. Sushi Inc, an extension of the SoHo Sushi brand offers the same unique experience you receive at SoHo Sushi with the added benefits of a full liquor bar and larger space for events.
